Letters to a Young Athlete, by Chris Bosh Due to come out in June of this year, I think this is a great first stop on this post. Chris Bosh has always struck me as a thoughtful guy, and I love the “Letters” approach. This may be a good one to pass along to a young person as a graduation gift, or maybe just keep on your own shelf for a long, long time.
Dwyane, by Dwyane Wade. Coming out in November, the thing that has me hyped for this one is the promised 200 never before seen photos from behind the scenes with Dwyane Wade. This book will also be coinciding with a documentary on Dwyane’s life and career.
3 X 3 Basketball, by Luka Snoj. 3×3 hoops is on the rise, and who knows how far it can go? I am a huge believer in the benefits of 3 on 3 basketball to help young players learn the game. This likes it will be a unique look into the world of 3×3 b-ball!
The Big East: Inside the Most Entertaining and Influential Conference in College Basketball History, by Dana O’Neil. I grew up on The Big East, so this is a no brainer for me. Coming out in November-Christmas present, anyone?
Sooley, by John Grisham. Ok, I have to admit- this book is the inspiration behind this post. I am a huge Grisham fan, and super excited that he is delving into a basketball themed novel. Coming out real soon! This title is set to be released on April 27!
Michael’s Golden Rules, by Deloris Jordan and Roslyn M. Jordan. Michael Jordan’s mom and sister co-wrote this illustrated children’s book spreading the message of what goes into playing the game the right way. MJ, himself, wrote the introduction.
Tune Squad (Space Jam: A New Legacy) by Golden Books. If you haven’t heard about Space Jam 2 yet, you will. Be ready for a whole bunch of promotional products like this one coming out- but, hey- it’s too much fun!
Learning STEM from Basketball: Why Does a Basketball Bounce? And Other Amazing Answers for Kids! (STEM Sports), by Marne Ventura. Coming out in June, this could be a cool way for parents to help their kids keep up with their math and science skills over the summer!
The Competitive Buddha: How to Up Your Game in Sports, Leadership and Life (Book on Buddhism, Sports Book, Guide for Self-Improvement), by Dr. Jerry Lynch, Forward by Steve Kerr. I love it when personal development crosses paths with sports or the world of basketball. Coming out in July- I am greatly anticipating this summer read!
The Fifth Quarter, by Mike Dawson. A graphic novel that explores the life of a fifth quarter player. Lot’s of kids will be able to relate!
Space Jam: A New Legacy: The Junior Novelization (Space Jam: A New Legacy), by David Lewman. More Space Jam! Middle grade novel based on the new movie.
Centered: Autism, Basketball, and One Athlete’s Dreams, by Anthony Ianni. Due to come out in September of 2021, this one is definitely on my reading list. Anthony Ianni played for coach Tom Izzo at Michigan State from 2009-2012. His story is sure to inspire.
Three Ball: The History of Basketball’s Three-Point Shot and How it Has Taken Over the NBA, by Sam Amico. This looks like a really cool read on the history of the 3 point shot. Coming out in October.
Overseas Famous: The Travels and Tribulations of a Basketball Globetrotter, by Kevin Owens. I love personal accounts of the less-than-glamorous grind of a true gamer. Always inspiring to learn of the struggle and sacrifice players put in behind the scenes. Out in July.
Bubbleball: Inside the NBA’s Fight to Save a Season, by Ben Golliver. Coming out real soon- Looks to be a fascinating take on a season like no other. Check out what Bubble Ball was really all about.
Built to Lose: How the NBA’s Tanking Era Changed the League Forever, by Jake Fischer. I bet this one makes a splash!

Brothers on Three: A True Story of Family, Resistance, and Hope on a Reservation in Montana, by Abe Streep. Coming out in September, this looks like a great story spotlighting high school hoops players from the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana.
